Of the more than 4,000 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) with consultative status at the United Nations, only 146 have achieved General Consultative Status, the highest status an NGO can have at the UN. Zonta International was granted General Consultative Status in 1969.

How Big is Zonta?

Today there are more than 30,000 members belonging to more than 1,200 Zonta Clubs in 66 countries and geographic areas. Our Zonta eClub of Canada1 was created by the merger of members of the Zonta Club of Mississauga with some members of the Zonta Club of Ottawa and some members from the Zonta Club of Toronto. Zonta has a long tradition in Canada. The Zonta Club of Toronto was chartered in 1927, the Ottawa Club in 1929, and the Zonta Club of Mississauga was chartered in 1967. (note – the traditional, location based Zonta Clubs in Ottawa and Toronto are still fully-functioning clubs).

The Zonta eClub of Canada1 is part of District 4 which runs north – south from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Owen Sound, Ontario. Over the years, our Club has raised and donated more than $1.2 million to community projects. We support projects that address the needs of women. More recently, our focus has turned to women’s economic empowerment through entrepreneurship education and micro-skills. These investments can make a big difference in the lives of women. We invite Canadian businesses and individuals to donate towards our current and future Service projects.

We’re a Charitable Service Organization

At the Zonta e-Club of Canada1, advocacy and service go hand in hand. We are a registered charity and issue tax-creditable receipts. We are open to having new members join us. Our eClub is seeking additional partnerships with groups that serve to ‘advance the status of women’ through their own programs and initiatives.

Meetings

We meet on the third Wednesday of the month, from September to June. In addition, there may be social events planned for the summer months of July and August. Our meetings often feature a guest speaker followed by a discussion of eClub business. Prospective new members and guests are welcome to participate. Please contact us to get dial-in information to our online meetings.

Members’ Responsibilities

Members contribute to the Club’s success by serving on committees or on the Executive. For most, it may involve a few hours per month – some from home and at the one monthly meeting. Executive members may also have short video or phone meetings to take care of eClub matters between regular meetings.
